April has been a very confusing month. The excitement brought on by the arrival of Spring was washed away by the horror of the Boston Marathon Bombing. We have been left with a need to reaffirm the beauty the world has to offer. Many of our members have come in to create art as a way to heal their souls. The overwhelming need to help the victims of this tragedy has motivated many of our members to organize a fund raising event to benefit the One Fund Boston. Mark your calendars to join us at this wonderful event.
New classes at Art on Center are sure to spark your creativity. AoC is also looking forward to Art Fair 2013. This is going to be a great summer event.

B Strong Be Beautiful
In times like this, we all ask ourselves the same question: “What can I do to help?”
We asked ourselves that question, and we realized that the answer is to celebrate life. On Saturday, May 19th, you are invited to Art On Center for Be Strong, Be Beautiful. Local business owners are happily donating their talents and services for this special occasion, so please be prepared to be pampered! Join us as we come together as a community and raise money for the victims and family members of the victims of the Marathon Bombing.

Life Drawing Class
with Darlene Sassmann
Draw 3D objects and increase your knowledge of the effects of light on form, volume and line. Work with still-life setups, start with simple materials and compositions, then move to more complicated media which includes live models. This is a great class to begin your studies in art or to improve your drawing skills.
Darlene Sassmann is a graduate of UMass Dartmouth with a
Bachelor’s of Fine Art degree. Darlene has exhibited her work at Artworks Gallery and The Bierstadt Society in new Bedford.
Classes will be held every Wednesday for six weeks starting June 12th
from 7pm-9pm.
Fee per class: $12.00

Photoshop 101
Do you find Photoshop overwhelming? Confusing? It doesn’t need to be. Attend a monthly “members only” workshop. Adobe Photoshop is the single most powerful software for post-processing your images but you really only need to learn the basics to get started with some powerful skills. Learn how to use the menu and tool bars including cropping, cloning, move, zoom, file info, image adjustments, size and so much more. ‘Basic Photoshop’ will get you up to speed with ease, learning just the basics, in a user-friendly teaching.

Artful Minds
- We offer fun, artful learning experiences for children year-round.
- Classes encourage creative thinking, problem solving, and art exploration.
- Topics include art history as well as art making using a variety of mediums.
- Science, Math and Language Arts concepts are frequently incorporated as well.
- Activities are process, as well as success, oriented.
- All skill levels are welcome.
We are dedicated to providing fun art experiences in an atmosphere conducive to the building of creative and critical thinking skills. The “I can do it” attitude children come away with builds self-esteem, independence and positive thinking. This class is open to children ages 5-12 years old.
Classes are held Thursdays from 4-5:30pm
Fee for members is $8.00 , non-members $10.00

YOGA
Restorative Yoga with gentle flow incorporating mindful stretching, pranayama (breath techniques to increase health benefits of practicing yoga), gentle asanas, meditation and chanting. Class suitable for all levels. Classes are held Mondays from 7:00-8:30 at the Classes are $10 each or a

Toning Through Dance Movement
Wether you want to get in shape for spring or just to put some spring in your step, join us the first and third Thursday of the month from 6:00pm to 7:00 pm at Art on Center. We will be using dance based moves and exercises to tone while having fun! No previous dance experience needed.

Art Fair 2013
Art on Center is pleased to announce the 1st annual Fine Art and Artisinal Craft Fair to be held August 10, 2013 from 10am to 4pm. This is a great opportunity to showcase you artwork in an energetic setting. This will be a juried exhibition. Submit your application with images/samples of your artwork by May 22, 2013. The Art Fair committee will notifiy artists of acceptance by June 1, 2013.
Not an artist? Members of AoC and community businesses may also sponsor a booth. Artists participating in the Art Fair may apply for sponsorship. Sponsors will be matched with artists. This is a great way to support the arts in your community.
